Since 2009, Dave Todaro has been exhibiting his nature-inspired paintings in both individual and collective shows in Montreal and the United States. This website showcases all current collections and selected works from the past decade.
DREAMS OF THE ANIMALS
Mostly the animals dream of other animals...
Do animals dream? Do they dream of other animals? Do they fantasize about the kill, the escape, or death itself? This series of paintings imagines the visions taking place in the mind's eye of creatures big and small, as they lay sleeping.
Title inspired by Margaret Atwood poem (1976) of the same name.
Our dependence on oil runs deep. Petrol and derived products are tightly woven into the fabric of our society. How do we break away from something we thirst for so profoundly?
Hydroelectricity and Birds
The flip of a switch puts into motion a series of actions which inevitably affect the peoples, wildlife, and the chemical balance of the world in which we live.
Dave Todaro was born and raised in Montreal. He studied Illustration & Design at Dawson College and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Concordia University.
Dave has been navigating the art world for the past 20 years as a commercial artist, designer, art educator, muralist, and most recently as an art director. All the while, Dave has kept a painting practice, exhibiting in galleries and collaborating with other artists from around the world.
His artwork is heavily influenced by animals - especially birds, with a focus on the complex relationships between the environment and human activity. In Dave's practice, he seeks to highlight the delicate balance between man and nature in an ever-changing world. His paintings are a place where realism meets the surreal.
"In motivating people to love and defend the natural world, an ounce of hope is worth a ton of despair."
