Relationships are at the root of my philosophy. They apply not only to my process, but to my subject matter, and the viewer as well. It is through the constant examination of these connections that my work develops and takes form.

My process can best be described as an open dialogue. Although I may sometimes approach a piece with a very clear idea in mind, I am not confined by my own thinking. Once paint meets canvas, once pen meets paper, there emerges a compelling reaction. Color, texture, line and layer all respond to one another, pushing and pulling, each competing for its own space. A complex visual and emotional dialogue is born between the work and myself. My role is to play with all of these elements until a harmony between the visual and the vision is achieved.

My subject matter reflects a strong sense of relationship as well whether it be between human and his/her emotions, wildlife, environment, or humankind itself. The end result may be figurative or abstract, however these relationships are always present.

The viewer is important to me. It is my hope that they develop their own personal emotional or intellectual connection to my work; that they open up to mental discourse, whether their reaction to the piece be positive or negative. My own personal intentions behind the work are far from paramount. I wish to provoke, open cognitive doors, and allow a totally unleashed freedom of thought.

Les relations sont le fondement de ma philosophie. Elles influencent non seulement mon processus, mais également mon choix de sujet et l’observateur. C’est en examinant constamment ces liens que mon œuvre se développe et prend forme.

Mon processus est un dialogue ouvert. Même si je commence parfois un tableau avec une idée très claire en tête, mes pensées ne me contraignent pas. Une fois que la peinture touche la toile, que le crayon touche le papier, une réaction fascinante se produit. La couleur, la texture, la ligne et la couche interagissent, se bataillant, rivalisant, pour tenter de prendre leur place. Un dialogue complexe, visuel et émotionnel se développe entre moi et mon œuvre. Mon rôle est de jouer avec tous ses éléments jusqu’à ce qu’une harmonie soit atteinte entre l’esquisse et la vision.

Mon sujet reflète également les relations, qu’elles soient entre la personne et ses émotions, la nature, l’environnement ou bien l’humanité. Le résultat peut être figuratif ou abstrait, peu importe, ces relations sont toujours présentes.

Les observateurs sont importants pour moi. J’espère que ceux-ci développeront leur propre relation émotionnelle ou intellectuelle avec mon œuvre et qu’ils s’ouvriront à une discussion intellectuelle, que leur réaction soit positive ou négative. Les intentions personnelles derrière mon art sont loin d’être les plus importantes. Je souhaite provoquer, ouvrir des portes cognitives, et favoriser une liberté débridée de la pensée.
